Abstract. Every cultivar in every treatment reacted to watering with retardant solutions. Flurprimidol has very strong retarding properties. Treating with daminozyd resulted in better flowering plants of Begonia semperflorens ‘Eureka Scarlet F1’ and Petunia × atkinsiana ‘Prism Sunshine F1’ than control plants.

Summary
The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse from March to May 2002. Young plants of Begonia semperflorens and Petunia × atkinsiana were planted in 9 cm pots. After one month plants were watered with solutions of retardants: daminozide in concentration of 1700 mg·l-1 chlormequat in concentration of 690 mg·l-1 and flurprimidol in concentration of 3.75 mg·l-1 directly to the substrate. There was given 50 ml of retardant solution to every pot. Plants were treated this way only once. Every cultivar in each treatment reacted to watering with retardant solutions.
Flurprimidol has very strong retarding properties. Flurprimidol reduced the plant height by 15.5-19.8% in Petunia × atkinsiana and 66.7-79.3% in Begonia semperflorens. Treating with daminozide resulted in better flowering plants of Begonia semperflorens ‘Eureka Scarlet F1’ and Petunia × atkinsiana ‘Prism Sunshine F1’ than control plants.
